Choosing the Right Style for Your Body Shape

A good pair of jeans can be one of the more versatile articles of clothing in your entire closet. You can bum around the house with a t-shirt, change into a fun top to go shopping with girlfriends, and add a blazer for a nice dinner out with your significant other, all without ever changing out of your jeans. But if they are the wrong style for your body shape, you’ll look sloppy and dumpy instead of sassy and stylish. How do you know which pair works for you? Simply follow this guide, and you can’t go wrong!

Choosing the Right Style for Your Body Shape
Wide Hips. The worst thing someone with wide hips can do is try to hide them in a relaxed fit pair of jeans. These jeans actually draw attention to the width. Instead, buy a pair of boot-cut jeans. The flare at the bottom helps to minimize the appearance of thick thighs or wide hips. The key to these jeans looking best is to get them long enough. The hem line should hit the bottom of the ankle. If you plan to only wear them with a heel, which will help to minimize the look of wide hips even more, the hemline can go as low as the floor when standing flat-footed.

Boyish Figure. Someone with a rectangular body style has the opposite problem as someone who is pear shaped. To add
the illusion of curves, choose cigarette or tapered jeans. Because they are slender at the calves, they make the hips look wider and add curve to flat bottoms.

Short Legs. Both tapered and flared jeans will add to the stockiness of short legs. To give the illusion of height, choose a pair of high-waisted trouser jeans. The very straight vertical lines create a slimming, lengthening look. To add even more length, have the hemline hit the floor when standing flat-footed and wear heels. Also, cuffing jeans is very trendy right now, but should be avoided by those with short legs. If you must cuff, choose a pair long enough to still hit the bottom of your ankle once cuffed, and don’t have the cuff any longer than an inch.

Big Bottom. The wrong pair of jeans on someone with a big bottom will make Jennifer Lopez look small. The biggest culprit is pockets. Pockets that are small, too high or close together, or decorated can make a large back end look hippo-like. Having no pockets at all draws attention to the very area you’re trying to camouflage. Instead, choose a pair of jeans that have wide, long pockets that rest wide and low on your bottom. Vertical seams, both on the pockets and down the back of the jeans, also help to create length instead of width. The jeans should also be a low rise cut to shorten the back end, and should flare at the ankles to help create balance.

Big Belly. If you have a big belly, choose a pair of high-waisted jeans to help create a smooth plane over the entire stomach. Just be careful not to have the jeans go above the belly button. While button-fly or regular zip-up jeans are fine, don’t choose jeans that tie, have pleats or an elastic waistband, or are decorated in front. These things will just bring attention to the belly bulge.

Get Ashley Olsen’s Style for Less!

There’s no doubt Ashley Olsen is a fashion maven. Not only does she start trends with her inventive (and sometimes out-there) looks, she’s also designing two lines with sister Mary Kate – one called "The Row" and another named "Elizabeth and James." Ashley stepped out in October in this quirky outfit of a hoodie and leather skirt from The Row paired with Christian Louboutin flats and a vintage Fendi crocodile tote. While her bag alone fetches around $9,000 on online auctions, you can get a version of her look for under $250. Ready, set…shop!

Ashley is always pushing the style envelope, and this funky sweats-and-skirt combo is no exception. If you’re brave enough to try the look, here’s how to do it!

Lauren Bush Saves The Planet

Happy Earth Day! For so long we’ve taken our planet for granted. Politicians yelled at us and tried to pass laws, but nothing got our attention. Until the fashion world (plus Al Gore and Bono) made some noise. Suddenly, we have eco-clothes, eco-bags and even cute eco-shoes (thank you, Natalie Portman). But one of the first celebrities (semi-celebrities, um, semilebrities?) to really be vocal on the eco-friendly front was the President’s niece, model Lauren Bush. Lauren designed these environmentally friendly FEED bags with FEED Projects to help benefit the United Nations World Food Program. The idea behind it is to not only fight World hunger, but also an overall commitment to the environment and to safe and healthy working conditions around the World. Ok, so Lauren is really going for it with her bag.

But even me, in my infinite laissez-faire-ness can work towards this eco-happy goal of saving the Earth. My environmentally friendly Anya Hindmarch bag saves me from wasting plastic bags at the market. It’s amazing when even fashion is on board with important politics. Now if only our government would catch on then the Earth would stand a chance!

Kate Moss tops Glamour fashion list

LONDON - British supermodel Kate Moss has regained her crown at the top of Glamour magazine’s annual best-dressed women list, replacing 2007 winner Kylie Minogue who slumped to 19th this year.

Moss, 34, dominated the list before the Australian pop star overtook her, but Minogue’s fashion choices during the past 12 months have been too "outlandish" for many voters’ tastes, a spokesman for the magazine said.

Behind Moss was British actress Sienna Miller in second place, followed by U.S. actresses Scarlett Johansson, Rachel Bilson and Jennifer Aniston in third, fourth and fifth places respectively.

"Kate’s back with a vengeance," said Jo Elvin, editor of Glamour, of the poll decided by Glamour readers. "Her maverick approach to fashion is an inspiration and shows us all how to be a little more daring and experimental."

Minogue’s slide was partly blamed on her appearance on television talent show the X Factor wearing a figure-hugging lace catsuit that divided viewers and fashion watchers.

Topping the worst-dressed list in Glamour this year was U.S. singer Britney Spears.

Former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham was voted ninth worst-dressed of 2008, but also came 10th in the best-dressed list.

Gwen Stefani - beauty line

Gwen Stefani has revealed she dreams of having her own beauty line one day. The singer, who is due to release her perfume range Harajuku Lovers this autumn wants to expand further into the cosmetic market, reported FemaleFirst recently. The singer said:

I would love to have a full L.A.M.B. beauty line one day. It makes sense. I’ve always loved doing my hair and makeup and getting all dressed up. When I have a party or an event to go to, getting ready is just as much fun as actually going out.”

As for her perfume line, I can say that Harajuku Lovers is to be made up of five different fragrances based on Gwen and her four dancers Love, Angel, Music and Baby.

“I didn’t think this project would actually come to life,” Stefani added. Gwen confessed she was delighted to find out she had a chance to do five different fragrances for Harajuku Lovers.

It really had to be five, because that’s what the world is.”

Sounds profound and philosophic.

“Each girl has her own personality and sense of style. We’re all saying something different with unique personalities,” Gwen concluded, according to the source.

We’re looking forward for your perfume, Gwen. Sure it’ll be better than Britney’s.

Evan Rachel Wood Is No Dita Von Teese. Marilyn Manson, However, Remains A Douche

Evan Rachel Wood Is No Dita Von Teese. Marilyn Manson, However, Remains A DoucheDoing a good job there, freak boy. You had what appeared to be a good thing with Dita, but the drugs drove her away. The new one doesn’t complain about any drugs … either she’s totally oblivious or she’s doing them, too. It certainly would explain why she’s still around.

While Evan Rachel kept herself busy trying to alienate the few fans she has left, she’s also sinking deeper into the mire that surrounds her man. She’s turning 20 this week and Marilyn is due to turn 40. Perhaps in light of those milestones he has decided to mold her into the shape of one who got away, and he sent her off to be remade. Now he’s got his Dita clone of his very own, and this one isn’t walking out any time soon.

21 screening in New York Mary Kate Olsen, Kate Bosworth, Helena Christensen

Mary Kate Olsen, Kate Bosworth, Helena Christensen

Kate Bosworth was out last night in New York promoting her latest flick, 21, at the screening hosted by the Cinema Society & Calvin Klein Jeans, and a few other familiar faces showed up to the after party too. Mary-Kate Olsen pouted for the camera in a loose fitting black satin jump suit, paired a bright pink belt and that Miu Miu clutch she was first seen clutching back at the CFDA awards in 2007. A nice chic ensemble, I kind of think the clutch overpowers the outfit and doesn’t compliment it at all. Kate wore a strapless Calvin Klein dress (after all she is CK jeans’ current face) with the only splash of colour in her orange glossy lips. Helena Christensen also opted for the dark colours in a lace trimmed black satin mini dress with a navy blazer worn over the top. Who’s look did you like, and who’s was just oh so wrong?
